"Taking its name from Alice Sheldon’s 1976 novella ‘Houston, Houston, Do You Read?’ in which an all female society present a feminist utopian vision aboard spaceship Gloria, the exhibition celebrates female practitioners, showcasing an international selection of seminal and contemporary works.

At the centre of Gloria’s Crew is an investigation into the methods and processes of knowledge transfer particular to the work of women. Functioning across a range of media including text-based works, audio installations, film and sculpture, the artists reference literary narratives, exploit open sources of knowledge such as the internet and advertising billboards, and appropriate female icons to highlight that the way in which we communicate is consistently politicised and gendered. Artists include: Andrea Greenwood, Hayley Lock, Cecile Emmanuelle Borra,the Guerrilla Girls, Marysia Lewandoska (WAA), Ellie Rees, Karien Van Assendelft + more.

Accompanied by a special set from DJ duo ATTA girl, who’ll be spinning their love for (predominantly) female vocalists. Admission is free."

"Trumpeter Sam Wooster and saxophonist Alex Merritt are the top two graduates to emerge from the jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2009. Sam was awared the Yamaha prize for the best student of the year, but Alex came a very close second. Birmingham Jazz has set up this session with two of its favourite free players: drummer Mark Sanders and bass player John Edwards. Sam and Alex will play separate sets with Mark and John performing a mix of their own tunes as well as some free
improvisations."

They are open-submission (email anendlesssupply@gmail.com for info) with a focus on drawing, text, art writing, photography, etc. Back issues are free online here.

"We would like to invite you to the launch of the new edition of An Endless Supply, guest edited by curator Kate Pennington-Wilson, on Thursday 6 August at the Victoria. The night will feature readings from contributors, DJ's, music, dancing and boozing.
Admission is free and all are welcome.

Since 2003 Capsule have curated the annual Supersonic Festival in Birmingham.
Over the years there's been such bands/musicians as Coil, Earth, Mogwai, Isis, Harvey Milk, Battles, Fucked Up, High On Fire, Pram, Final, Michael Gira, Thrones, Chrome Hoof, Rolo Tomassi, Lcd Soundsystem, Fuck Buttons, Broadcast, Merzbow & Keiji Haino, Psychic Tv, Shit And Shine, Harmonia, Dalek, Jesu, Bela Emerson, Modified Toy Orchestra, Om, US Maple, Sunn0))), Shy Child, Serafina Steer, The Tug, Oxbow, Circle, Gravetemple, Zombi, Alexander Tucker, Tuung, DJ Scotch Egg, Kling Klang, Wolf Eyes, Noxagt, Oren Ambarchi, Justice Yeldham, Parts And Labour, Jazkamer and hundreds more.

For three days and nights this July we were blessed with it again.
Experiencing (as always) a great atmosphere of freedom, open mindedness, creativity, ideas, collaboration, possibilities, enthusiasm, chaos and fun.
There's something vital missing from mainstream music, venues, festivals and practices, and it's found here. A real alternative to the lifeless, boring, profit based, unimaginative bullshit we're sold every day.

The following photos don't come close to including everything that happened or portraying the scale of the festival weekend. Just a glance at some of the performers and moments from my perspective. Hats off to Lisa, Jenny, the Capsule team and interns and volunteers for making this happen. The city is better for their work.

How hard would it be to start a new mid-sized venue in Birmingham, which could be an arts/exhibition space, a veggie/vegan cafe, a book/record store, community space/ learning space (in the daytime).... and a venue for live music and events at night?

Would be a great centre for creativity and development, a pioneering project that isn't happening elsewhere yet in the country, and surely there's the space and funding help for it?
